The cross sitting on the hill
Slowly fades away
In the rearview mirror

As the lamp over my head quickly dimmers.

"God will punish you"
"God will punish you"

You in the front seat,
Bawling your eyes out.

Me in the back seat,
Biting my tongue,
Gritting my teeth.

I look at you,
Tears rolling down
Your cheeks onto the steering wheel.
I look at myself,
Not a tear in sight,
My heart hardening by the second.

I wonder,
When did my heart become so cold?
When did I become so numb?

I look at you,
Tears rolling down your face.
Go ahead and cry, Ma.
You deserve it.
